The Ugly Duckling company started the serial production of the
artificial lures for the recreational fishing in the early eighties of
the last century. Thanks to the great experience and years of testing,
the Ugly Duckling wobblers have become worldwide popular, known for
their fantastic quality and effectivness.
The main part in the process of producing these
wobblers is the manual work. All Ugly Duckling models, except for the
RP'RATT, are being made out of the high quality balsa and samba wood.
The first step is picking the right wood. The next step is this:
The lures are being made out of the two identical
halves - left and right. After the wood has been brought to a proper
size for a certain type of the wobbler, it is being sunk into a special
solution. It stays for 24 hours there, and afterwards it is being
dried. This is the first level of the wood protection, after which the
halves are being handled with the special tools, bringing them to the
proper shape. This step excludes the problem of the lures being good
until they "get to drink some water". We have many many examples from
the fishermen who suddenly find the lost Ugly Duckling wobblers that
have spent even years in water, yet still effective like they were the
day they were taken out of the box...
When the halves are finished, the next step is
sticking them together, previously putting the right wire in between.
The wire is safe from the opening, and goes through the whole wobbler
body length. This wire also stands every pressure during fishing, not
influenting neither body nor lip. After filling of possible rough
parts, the next step of the protection is putting up to eight layers of
a special lacquer. After that, depending on design, some wobblers are
being printed and manually finished, and others are being manually
painted completely. The color is protected with two layers of the
lacquer. Now is the moment when the wobblers finally get the lip and a
hook. The most important operation is - testing and printing. Every one
of them is being tested manuall
y until the perfect vibration that predators recognize well.
Maybe this process doesn't sound very complicated,
but every time you use your favourite Ugly Duckling friend, remember
you are using something made with much effort, knoledge, experience,
love, and tendention to make a top quality wobbler which will make a
champion of you.
